The beautiful spot of Guincho, Portugal, is set to host – from the 4th (registration) to the 10th of September, the Guincho Wave Masters World Cup, an event co-organized with our partner Realizar.
Following the first stage in Essaouira, Morocco, the African Mecca, the Guincho Wave Masters World Cup “Europeen Mecca” is the second leg of this year KPWT wave riding circuit and sure to be one of the highlights of the 2006 Wave Masters World Cup season with forecasts around 30 knots and 3 metres waves already announced.
Indeed, the previous edition of this discipline proved very successfull, so this is with great pleasure that the KPWT team will descend upon Portugal and the spot of Guincho, which, besides offering all the required wave riding conditions for a pro-level competition. The opportunity for the top pro kiteboarders to gain points and fight for the Wave Masters title.
Moreover, this event will also hold a party – the Kiteboard Party – at “4US Bar” on the 9th of September, that will complete the programme to be further detailed.
After this event, St Gilles Croix de Vie will host the next stage and New Caledonia will also be a great highlight of the Wave Masters 2006 season !

Guincho Beach: You get to Cascais, which is a villa near Lisbon, and then you go all the way ‘near coast’ until Gunicho beach. Best Summer Wave Spot in Europe. The Wind: Guincho is a windy place. In Guincho the wind starts blowing around March and continues through to October, the best conditions being in July, August and September. The wind prevails from the north-west at a side/side-onshore angle. Can be really strong. The Wave: Beach-break, Right and left, Powerful, SouthWest, South, West, NorthWest, All tides. After Kiteboard: Plenty bars, good party and beautiful women.

Right after the World Cup of Matosinhos 2nd - 8th August 2004, The KPWT caravan stopped on the Portuguese famous spots of GUINCHO, ESPOSENDE and PENICHE for the first Wave Masters of the year. After one week of intense and relentless wave riding with good conditions - 20-25 knots of wind and 3 to 6 foot waves - we closed the first stage of the 2004 kiteboarding Wave Masters with the victory of Hervé Bouré (FR,Takoon). A new first place and confirmation for the french wave rider, champion of the 2003 Wave Masters. In the second place Bruno Sroka (FR, Cabrinha) showed its talent during the first sesssion in Northern Portugal. Special focus on the revelations of this first 2004 Wave Masters: Jose Sanchez (Spain, Wipika), already well known in freestyle, represented Spain in a brilliant way, the Portuguese Joao Silva (Airush), for his powerful style and professionnal attitude, and, among others, Jamie Padgett (USA), best representative of the Californian way of surfing.
